“My wife and I acquired one of the original homesteads in the old part of Byron Bay, which was in need of restoration, renovation and an additional master bedroom/ensuite. After undertaking architectural designs and obtaining a Development Approval for the Heritage overlayed house, we embarked on the construction project.
We engaged Jameslea Build owned by Steve Davis after conducting a competitive tender process and obtaining glowing references for Steve’s work from other clients in the area. What sealed it for us was his enthusiasm and commitment to “treat your home like my own home”.
The project had some complexities including documentation that was not fully completed (we had to replace the Architect), the Heritage overlay requirements, not knowing exactly what we would find when renovating a house nearly 100-years old and the conditions attached to the Development Approval.
From the very first day, Steve and his skilled team approached the project with great enthusiasm and a solution-oriented focus. As we were not living in Byron Bay at the time, we could only make a few scheduled visits to check on progress so we were very pleased with Steve’s initiative as he often needed to make decisions ‘on the go’, however he always consulted with us first and came up with great suggestions and recommendations.
Steve worked very closely with the local Interior Architect we engaged, and together they transformed our house into a very light and bright, beachy and beautiful contemporary house. The heritage ‘look and feel’ was retained and enhanced, and the upper floor (master bedroom and ensuite) looked like it was always there and fitted very sympathetically into the building envelope.
Attention to detail was a hallmark of his approach, and the quality of work and finishes was impeccable. Steve and his team finished the project on the scheduled date we had agreed at the beginning, and were extremely accommodating to the numerous additions and design changes made along the way.
The outcome is an amazing renovated and enlarged Byron beach house that has the character of a great Queenslander timber residence and timeless appeal and charm. Anne and I were extremely grateful to Steve for the magnificent work he and his team did, and for the way he interacted with us throughout the project. We could not be more pleased with the outcome and highly recommend Steve Davis for this type of project.”
